Laity Sunday

Join us for Laity Sunday!

Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019

la · i · ty

noun

From laos, meaning “people of God,” and used to describe members of a congregation or parish.

Laity Sunday is a celebration.

Through testimony, slide show, song, and lay speakers, we celebrate the “work of the people”, all that God has accomplished through us in the past year at Christ Church. Donut Time is transformed into a breakfast buffet, Summer Sunday School becomes a sharing time, and the worship service is a time of thanksgiving that God uses us all!

Laity Sunday is an invitation.

As we remember together what God accomplishes through our congregation, we also anticipate what new ministry waits for us in the future. What will our role be in this work? Where might God use our gifts? Each believer is called to this ministry – not just clergy. Each of us has a responsibility to proclaim the Good News and reach out to others in love.

Laity Sunday is a tradition.

Laity Sunday has been a Methodist tradition since 1929, first celebrated in the Methodist Episcopal church. Today Laity Sunday is an international celebration throughout the United Methodist Church. To quote United Methodist Discipleship Ministries, “Laity Sunday is a time to recognize the work and mission of all laity – not only within the walls of the church but in everyday lives.”
